Counselor

The Counselor's office will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. If you need to meet with the counselor at another time, this may be done by appointment.

All seniors who have not taken the ACT need to do so before the end of the first semester. To register, go to www.actstudent.org. When registering for the ACT, you must enter the school code (011-318). If the school code is not entered, the school will not receive a copy of your scores, and they will therefore not be included in your transcripts. Practice test are available in the counselor's office.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Alabama River Pulp Company Scholarships-

If one of your parents is employed by any Alabama River Pulp Company, you may be eligible for a scholarship. They usually award an Academic Excellence Cash Award of up to $1,500 and a $4,000 scholarship that pays $500 per semester as long as the student maintains a “C” average. Ask your parent(s) to check this out NOW.

J.L. Bedsole Foundation Scholarship-

To apply go to www.jlbedsolefoundation.org. Phase One of the online application must be completed by November 30, 2011. Visit the website or see Mrs. Newsom for more details.

Lathan Funeral Home Scholarship-

To apply for this scholarship, you need to write an essay describing why you want and/or need the scholarship. Include your future goals and what college you plan to attend. Deliver your essay to the Lathan Funeral Home or mail it to the following address: P.O. Box 361, Jackson, AL, 36545. There is no set deadline, but I would definitely send it in before Thanksgiving.

Linly Heflin Scholarship-

This scholarship is available to Alabama women. There is a minimum ACT requirement of 23. See Mrs. Newsom or Mrs. Allen for an application. Deadline January 13, 2012.

Alabama Association of Volunteer Fire Departments-

See information sheet for qualifications. Deadline- March 31, 2012. Louise Wilson Scholarship/Cattlewomen's Association-Available to students who have a parent of grandparent who are members of the Cattlewomen's Association and have been for at least two consecutive years. See Mrs. Newsom or Mrs. Allen for applications. Deadline- December 31, 2011.

Burger King Scholaships-

NWTF Scholarship-

TOMBIGBEE HEALTHCARE AUTHORITY-

ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE FOUNDATION, INC.-

In order to qualify for the scholarship, the applicant must be a dependent child of a member of a participating Alabama electric cooperative at the time the application is made and through graduation from high school. The application with all required attachments and submissions must be received no later than March 16, 2012.

REGIONS BANK-BLACK HISTORY MONTH SCHOLARSHIP-

To apply for this scholarship, you must write a 500 word essay describing an African-American who has inspired you. Essays may be turned in to Mrs. Newsom by February 24 or turned in to Regions Bank in Thomasville by February 29. The amount of the scholarship is $5,000. Most 4 year colleges and universities have a December 1 scholarship deadline. If you plan to go straight to one of these schools, set up a time to meet with me ASAP so that we can see what scholarships are eligible for you.
